Dedicated Web Hosting Explanation

When we talk about hosting web servers, there are three basic categories - shared hosting servers, VPS (virtual private web servers) and dedicated servers. Shared web hosting servers host many customers and thus the system resources per account are limited, virtual private server accounts give you more configuration freedom, but also influence other virtual web servers on the hardware node if utilized unwisely, and dedicated servers give you the possibility to do everything you please without meddling with anyone else.

Why would you require a dedicated server?

Dedicated servers are usually much more expensive than shared servers or virtual web servers. Why would anyone, then, use them? The reply is quite simple. If your company has a heavy resource-devouring web portal, or just has very precise web server architecture requirements, the most sensible choice would be a dedicated server. For somebody who is inclined to invest in safety and dependability, the bigger price is not a concern. You are granted full root-level access and can use 100% of the dedicated web hosting server's system resources without anyone else using these resources and interfering with your sites.

Hardware architectures

Most web hosting distributors, incl. us at Hepsia, provide several hardware architectures you can pick from based on your needs. The hardware architectures include different varieties of microprocessors, a different number of cores, different RAM memory and server hard disk sizes and different web traffic usage quotas. You can select a hosting Control Panel, which is a useful GUI if you wish to use the web hosting server for hosting purposes solely and choose not to resort to an SSH console for all the modifications you will be making. We offer three kinds of hosting CP software - Hepsia, DirectAdmin and cPanel.

The Control Panel of your choice

If you are a self-reliant Linux OS user (our dedicated servers are powered by Linux or other Unix-based OSs), you could manage your dedicated server via SSH exclusively. That, however, could be inconvenient, particularly if you wish to grant access to someone else who has less technical skills than yourself. That is why having hosting CP software activated is a clever idea. The Hepsia Control Panel tool that we offer does not offer root privileges and is chiefly suitable for someone who maintains many online portals that require lots of resources, but would rather manage the web portals, databases and electronic mails using a user-friendly web hosting Control Panel. The DirectAdmin and cPanel hosting Control Panels, on the other hand, give you full root access and offer 3 levels of access - root, reseller and user. If you plan to resell hosting accounts instead of using the web hosting server only for yourself, you should select one of these two.

Server monitoring and backup procedures

Last but not least, there is the matter of monitoring the dedicated server and of backing it up. In case of a problem with your dedicated server, such as a non-responsive Apache or an outage, it is good to have some sort of monitoring platform activated. Here at Hepsia the system administrators monitor all dedicated servers for ping timeouts, and, if you order a Managed Services upgrade, they monitor the separate services on the dedicated server as well. Backups are also an extra feature - the web hosting supplier offers you data backups on our own backup web servers. You could pick a type of RAID that would allow you to save the same data on two hard drives as a protective measure in case of a server hard drive failure, or in case someone whom you have given complete server root access erases something unintentionally.
